As you might have seen in the news recently, the Government has announced that a new agreement has been reached with   housing associations to extend the Right To Buy.

We have long supported the view that successful neighbourhoods include a range of property types, such as homes available for rent and shared ownership, alongside homes that are privately owned. We are committed to playing our part in this.

We understand, however, that views on the Right To Buy extension are mixed. While some of our customers may welcome it as a way to own a home of their own, others may be concerned about there being enough homes available for affordable rent for those who need them.

The National Housing Federation worked with the Government to reach the voluntary agreement and housing associations were asked for their views.

As part of Symphony Housing Group, Cobalt supported the deal, while at the same time highlighting the importance of renting a home being of equal value to home ownership, and requesting more information on the detail of the proposal.

The fact that housing associations will be better able to replace the homes sold was key to us backing the deal.

We are now working with the National Housing Federation and want to play our part in shaping the detail to ensure the deal is right for our customers, neighbourhoods and organisations.
