Rachel and Kayleigh visited two community groups as part of National Volunteers Week, Fazakerley Library and Croxteth Family Matters, with some gifts as appreciation for the work volunteers do all year round. The work that the group provides across our neighbourhoods is truly inspiring and beneficial.
Rachel commented on how volunteers should be commended for all the hard work they do all year round:
“This is a fantastic community space and each time I visit I am in awe of what they bring to the community and particularly as they are volunteers themselves. The services they offer are vast, whether this be helping someone get online, reducing social isolation or supporting people with additional needs. On several occasions I have witnessed first-hand how crucial the volunteers are to people in need and how they go above and beyond and tailor support to that particular individual.”
Fazakerley Community Library operates under the Fazakerley Federation which are both based on Formosa Drive. Plenty of activities are offer with the aim of reducing isolation amongst residents as well as providing information, advice and guidance. They offer a clothes bank, a community café and a weekly ‘Scouse Kitchen’ where residents can get a bowl of scouse each Thursday for free – yum!
Croxteth Family Matters based up on Moss Way and run an after school club and youth provision during half term as well as activities around improving the health and wellbeing of local residents. The hub holds a weekly ‘Baby Massage’ course delivered by Fazakerley & Croxteth Children’s Centre staff. In January this year the group launched Croxteth Food Pantry. The idea of the food pantry is for Croxteth residents of Croxteth to purchase 20 items of shopping weekly at £3. For more information about this, please visit our website.
