We have unfortunately been made aware of some phone scam incidents involving vulnerable residents in our neighbourhoods.

Fraudsters have claimed that someone in the bank is ‘stealing from accounts’ and all money should be withdrawn for a courier to collect.

If you receive a call you’re not expecting, you should always be suspicious. Please remember that your bank and the police will:

  • NEVER ask for your bank account details or PIN number over the phone
  • NEVER ask you to withdraw money and send it to them via a courier, taxi or by any other means
  • NEVER ask you to send your bank cards, or any other personal property, to them via courier, taxi or by any other means
  • NEVER ask you to transfer money into a ‘safe account’
  • NEVER ask for your online banking password

If you think someone is trying to trick you into handing over money or personal details, hang up and call the number on the back of your bank card. You can also call 159 if you are with one of the following banks:

  • Bank of Scotland
  • Barclays
  • Halifax
  • Lloyds Bank
  • NatWest
  • Royal Bank of Scotland
  • Santander
  • Starling Bank
  • Ulster Bank

159 is a secure number that will connect you directly with your bank if you think you are being scammed.

Please share this information with any vulnerable friends, family members or neighbours.
