House exchange
You could be eligible to swap your home with another Cobalt customer or a tenant with another social landlord to find a home that suits your needs.
HomeSwapper is a free service that allows you to view the latest homes, as soon as they’re available to swap.
You can choose the area you want to move to and the type of property you want and search for your new home. You can also list your property on the site.
HomeSwapper is free for Cobalt tenants to use, but you will need to be proactive in finding an exchange partner. There are a number of groups on social media which tenants have set up themselves to find exchange partners which you can also use.
Please note, you should be looking for a ‘right-sized’ home that you will be fully occupying. While we can consider individual circumstances, we will still consider affordability of all requests.
Important Update:
We want to make you aware of an important change to the mutual exchange service we use.
We’ve previously recommended House Exchange for this service, but this website will be closing at the end of July. From this point, you will need to use HomeSwapper to find and arrange your exchange.
What this means for you:

- You can start using HomeSwapper now – no need to wait
- Access to the service will remain free for Cobalt customers
- HomeSwapper gives you access to thousands of properties across the UK
If you are already registered with House Exchange, we recommend signing up to HomeSwapper as soon as possible so you don’t miss out on potential matches.
The process
Once you have registered with HomeSwapper, your details will be approved and you will be sent your login information by email or post. Your property will then appear on our database and you’ll be able to search for potential exchanges online.
When you have found someone to swap your home with, please download and complete this form and post or hand in to: Cobalt Housing, 199 Lower House Lane, Liverpool, L11 2SF.
Please note that there may be some circumstances where we do not give permission to exchange. If this happens, the reason will be explained to you.
