In April, the energy price cap rate rose by 54%.

In October 2022, this rate is expected tor rise gain by an additional 40%.

Energy Projects Plus has put together three actions that they are urging everyone to carry out before prices increase again:

1) Read your bills and learn your usage

The average annual usage is around 12,000kWh for gas and 3,000kWh for electricity. If your bills are estimated, take regular meter readings so your supplier can bill you accurately for the energy you’ve used. If you cannot physically read your meters, ask your supplier about their ‘Priority Services’ for vulnerable customers.

2) Make changes now to reduce your usage

Most of us are guilty of things like leaving lights on when we leave a room, overfilling kettles or leaving electrical items on standby. These simple actions waste money. For more information on the simple steps you can take to keep your home energy efficient, please click here.

3) Request a smart meter if you haven’t already got one

It is impossible to monitor your ongoing energy usage without a smart meter to show you what you’re using. Once installed, you can view your smart meter display, make an adjustment (e.g. turning down your thermostat or replacing old bulbs with LEDs) and monitor the difference it makes.
