We’re delighted to fund an early intervention programme to tackle ASB and youth crime in our neighbourhoods, working with our community partner, The Cells Project, to educate young people about the risks and consequences of criminal behaviour.
The Cells project is being rolled out to Year 6 pupils in all primary schools within our communities. This is an important age, where children may be more vulnerable to being coerced into criminal activity, as they transition to secondary school.
The Cells programme is delivered by rehabilitated ex-offenders and victims of crime and abuse. Each session covers drug awareness, gun and knife crime, gang culture, joint enterprise, victim impact and life in prison.
Cobalt works directly with children, schools, community organisations and partner agencies to educate young people and raise awareness of the resources available to them. This allows young people to make better choices and reduces the chances of them being vulnerable to criminality and risk-taking behaviour.
Along with individual support for young people through a 1-2-1 mentoring service, Cells has established a parents’ group in Croxteth and from February, a new parent’s group will launch in Norris Green using funding through Cobalt’s community fund.
Pupils have enjoyed the Cells sessions so far, with one pupil saying: “I loved it! All of them were amazing. I know that I should think twice before committing a crime.”
