Young Croxteth tenant, Adom, first visited our Altbridge development site after his Mum got in contact with our Project Officer, Kayleigh, to enquire about apprenticeship and work experience opportunities in construction. Adom explained:

“I was keen to learn more about working in construction, and that’s when Kayleigh suggested work experience on the Altbridge development site.”

After speaking with Casey Companies’ site manager, Kevin, Adom started three days’ work experience on site a week, getting involved in a variety of groundwork tasks. After his first month with Casey, Adom quickly realised that he was interested in pursuing a career in construction and requested to extend his placement for a further three months. Making a good impression with both Casey and subcontractors working on site, Adom was offered a permanent position with subcontractor, Harpurs, subject to passing his CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) test.

“When I wanted to get my CSCS card, Kayleigh helped me arrange this and apply for funds to sit the test.”

Adom’s test was funded through our Employment and Training fund. He passed his CSCS test in October 2021 and was offered a permanent position with Harpurs shortly after.

“While working with Harpurs on the Altbridge site, I have been involved in flagging, roadworks, concreting for wall foundations and edgings.”

Kayleigh Clarke, Project Officer at Cobalt Housing, said:

“A huge congratulations to Adom on gaining his permanent position with Harpurs. It has been a pleasure supporting you on your journey and it is great to see that your hard work, resilience and determination has paid off. A huge thank you to Casey Companies who facilitated Adom’s work experience as part of their social value commitments. We pride ourselves on working with contractors who are committed to social value, and by setting commitments such as enabling young people through work experience and employment opportunities, our contractors continue to support Cobalt in creating thriving communities.”
