Construction students from Hugh Baird College recently gained valuable insights experience into the world of housebuilding, thanks to a tour of our Waterdale Gardens site, our latest partnership development with Lovell Homes.

Eight Level 2 Bricklayer students were invited to tour the Croxteth development and learn more about the building stages, along with how each trade collaborates on a construction project. This was a first-time experience for many, working against the backdrop of a bustling site environment.

Laura Taylor, Community Engagement Manager at Lovell, said: “Making connections within the local area around our developments is hugely important. As well as being a chance to involve the local community, opportunities like this are an incredible tool for educating and inspiring the next generation of construction professionals.

“This also helped to highlight our partnership with Cobalt Housing and the work taking place behind the scenes to deliver 88 homes across a range of tenures. For many students, it is a site they are familiar with too, as it is right on their doorstep.”

The feedback to the event was positive, with students expressing excitement and gratitude for the exposure to real-world construction practices.

One student said: “The tour provided invaluable knowledge about the construction industry and what to expect in the field. It’s inspiring to witness firsthand how different trades work together.”

Joining the students on their tour were Anthony Lavelle, Councillor for Croxteth Ward, and Lila Bennett, Cabinet Member for Employment, Education Attainment, and Skills, representing Croxteth Country Park.

Councillor Lila Bennett commended the initiative, saying: “Engaging young minds in such immersive experiences is crucial for their development and future prospects. Partnerships like these pave the way for meaningful opportunities and skill enhancement within our communities.”
