A General Election is being held on Thursday July 4th 2024. This is your chance to have your say on which political party gets elected.
You must be registered to vote. If you’re not on the electoral register, you won’t be able to have your say.
Registering to vote is easy and only takes 5 minutes.
- You can register here: Register to vote – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
- You will need to provide your date of birth and National Insurance (NI) number. If you can’t find your NI number, get in touch with HMRC here: Find your National Insurance number – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
- The deadline to register is Tuesday 18th June 2024
To register to vote you must:
- Be resident in the electoral area. If you don’t have a fixed address, you can make a ‘declaration of local connection’ via the new IER system. You will still need to provide your date of birth and National Insurance number
- You must be a British, Irish, Commonwealth citizen or citizen of a European Union country
- You must be 16 years old to register, though you can only vote when you become 18
- You must not be subject to any legal incapacity to vote
