Brekkie and Brew Friday (BBF) celebrated its 1st anniversary on August 2nd. The weekly event provides a welcoming space in our office’s Canteen for people to relax with a butty and a brew while connecting with other members of our community.

To mark this special occasion, last Friday’s BBF saw customers and colleagues celebrating in style with a birthday cake, party nibbles, music and good cheer.

Sporting party hats, attendees connected and shared stories of the positive impact Brekkie and Brew Friday has on their lives.

Many attendees shared their appreciation for BFF and the volunteers who support it. Sharing their stories of isolation and how meeting up with new-found friends for a cup of tea and a butty every week has improved their confidence, increased their sense of belonging and made them happier.

“All the staff and volunteers make every member, new or old, feel very welcome,” said one BBF regular, while another said, “I love coming because I’m at home a lot and enjoy coming to see my friends,” with many feeling that ‘It goes too quick, we need an extra hour!”

Over the past 12 months, Cobalt’s Office on Lower House Lane has welcomed local partners to join Brekkie and Brew Fridays including Merseyside Police, LCR Neighbourhood Housing Managers, Cats Protection, An Hour For Others, The Thinker Hub CIC, Rooting For You CIC and River of Life CIC.

Since starting in August 2023, BBF has welcomed an average of 35 guests every week, generating £422,736 in social value, with a social return of £52.19 for every £1 invested.

One resident who comes to Brekkie and Brew Friday every week with her daughter told us, “We both feel part of a great community with such lovely welcoming people. My daughter has additional needs and is made to feel so welcome; she feels socially accepted by everyone. Attending each week has raised her confidence levels so high. All the Cobalt staff and volunteers are amazing, always so helpful and willing to sort out any of our problems.”

Brekkie and Brew Friday is supported by volunteer duo Julie and Dave, along with the help of many amazing volunteers.

In May, Julie was shortlisted for Tenant of the Year at the Northern Housing Awards, for over 30 years of dedication to making a difference in her community.

Join us for Brekkie and Brew, drop in any Friday morning between 10am – 12pm at Cobalt’s office on 199 Lower House Lane.
