Video doorbells can help you feel safer at home. But they must be used in the right way. Our new guide explains what you need to know before using one.

The guide explains where your video doorbell should point. It should focus on your own home, like your front door or garden. It should not look into other people’s homes or private spaces. If it records beyond your home, there may be rules you need to follow.

The guide also explains what you should do with any footage. You should not post videos of other people online or on social media. You should only share footage with the police or Cobalt if it is needed.

If you already have a video doorbell, the guide explains how to use it carefully. This includes keeping your recordings safe and only keeping footage that you need. Some doorbells also let you block out areas, so less is recorded.

Sometimes, Cobalt may provide a video doorbell in anti-social behaviour cases. This can help customers feel safer and collect information. If this happens, the customer is responsible for looking after it. If you need to drill holes or make changes to your home, you must ask permission first. Cobalt does not install video doorbells as a normal service.

We want customers to feel safe in their home and neighbourhood. Please read the full guide so you know how to use a video doorbell in the right way.
