As part of your tenancy agreement, you must allow access into your home to allow us to carry out these checks.
How often are the checks carried out?
We must carry out your gas safety check once a year.
Who will carry out my gas safety check?
Sure Maintenance carry out gas safety checks on our behalf. They will contact you to arrange a suitable appointment to carry this out.
How long will it take?
Gas safety checks take approximately 45 minutes. Sure Maintenance will check pipework and flues, all gas appliances that belong to Cobalt Housing and will test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
If you do not have a smoke alarm or Carbon Monoxide detector in your home, Sure Maintenance will fit battery operated ones into your home.
What if I don’t want to allow access for the check?
It is part of your tenancy agreement that you must allow access for us to carry out your gas safety check. If you don’t, you are putting yourself, your household, visitors to your home and your neighbours at risk, and we will take legal action against you to enforce access, which could result in you being fined or even sent to prison.
What should I do if I smell gas?
If you smell gas, turn off your gas supply at the mains immediately. Switch off all appliances, open windows and doors and go outside. Do not light a match or lighter or use mobile phones inside your home and do not turn on any lights or electrical switches. Contact National Gas Emergency Service (Cadent) on 0800 111 999
