What is safeguarding?

At Cobalt Housing, we work closely with our residents and partner organisations – such as Merseyside Police and Local Authorities – to help safeguard people living in our homes and communities. Together, we aim to prevent abuse and neglect and promote safe, supportive environments.

Understanding abuse and neglect

Abuse is the violation of someone’s human rights by another person. It can take many forms, including:

  • Physical, sexual, or emotional abuse
  • Domestic violence
  • Financial abuse
  • Neglect or self-neglect
  • Exposure to substance misuse
  • Modern-day slavery

Neglect means failing to care for someone properly. This can also include self-neglect, where a person is unable to meet their own basic needs due to lack of experience, ability, or support.

Concerned about abuse?

If you’re worried about someone in your community – or if you’re experiencing abuse yourself – we’re here to help.

You can contact Cobalt Housing confidentially. We’ll listen, investigate your concerns, and help you access the support you need. This applies to adults, young people, and children.

Reporting a concern

We encourage customers, community members, employees, and contractors to report any safeguarding concerns.

All reports are treated confidentially and handled in line with our Safeguarding Policy. We work closely with partner organisations and refer to other agencies when necessary.

If someone is at immediate risk of harm, call 999 and report it to the police.
