We’re pleased to announce that as part of our ASB Team’s Early Intervention project, we were able to invite young people from local schools in our communities of Norris Green, Croxteth and Fazakerley to partake in a ‘Crime and Consequence day’ ran by Law and Policing students at Edge Hill University, in collaboration with The Cells Project.
On the day, young people got the chance to investigate a crime scene in a purpose-built house on campus, to see the court process in a mock trial and to visit a prison.
The project was designed to educate students from primary schools about the consequences of crime, while encouraging young people to aim high in their aspirations, open their minds to new opportunities and to consider the possibility of going to University as being a realistic option to them.
Along with being given a guided tour around campus, students could ask the university staff and students questions. Cobalt’s partnership team arranged funding for the buses and we were able to take 40 children over two days.
Elaine Gough our ASB Officer, said of the experience, “We have some budding barristers amongst our groups! They were a credit to the school and their families. The children were enthusiastic, engaging and were asking questions and providing brilliant answers. The day was so uplifting, and it was so good to hear the students talking so positively about their aspirations and dreams.”
Students from Edge Hill shared their personal experiences of losing friends and family to drugs and suicide. Their testimonies highlight how despite any barriers they may face, it’s possible to achieve your dreams. Pupil feedback said that the day was very empowering, and they could relate to their stories.
