Our Chief Executive, Alan Rogers, has announced that he will be retiring later this year after 11 years at Cobalt Housing, and nearly 40 in the housing sector.
Alan has been involved with Cobalt since 1999, when he worked for Liverpool City Council on the stock transfer. Prior to Alan’s role here (and with former parent company Symphony Housing), he worked at Liverpool Housing Trust as Director of Regeneration and Riverside Housing as their Assistant Director for Housing Market Renewal. He started his career in Liverpool City Council in 1979 and spent over 20 years with the council before moving to Riverside.
The recruitment process for our next Chief Executive will start shortly, led by our Board.
In an open letter to all Cobalt residents today, Alan reflects on his time at Cobalt:
—
It is with a heavy heart that I have decided that this is the time for me to retire. This has been a very difficult decision, but I believe it is the right one for both me and Cobalt.
I leave Cobalt in a very strong position in terms of performance, staffing and board membership and am confident that we will continue to go from strength to strength.
There are too many people to thank for all the help and support that they have given me over the 11 years I have been in Cobalt, but I want to say that it has been an honour and a privilege to be part of Cobalt’s journey. However, I would like to give a special mention to our involved tenants, who have been a constant with Cobalt since the very beginning. The tenant’s voice is important, and the help, support, and advice you have given over the years has been vital to our development.
I have been involved in Cobalt in one way or another since 1999, so was part of our creation, and was delighted when we made the decision to go independent in 2017. Leaving the security of a larger group was a brave decision, but the ability to focus solely on our area has paid dividends, especially over the past two years with the issues that Covid has brought.
Cobalt has always been tenant focused and I am sure that this will continue in the future. For me the best, and only, way to overcome the challenges ahead are for us to work with tenants and the wider community to build resilience and provide mutual support.
Next week we’re going to be starting the search for my replacement. Whoever takes my place is a very lucky person having a great network of tenants to work with alongside a first-rate staff team and an understanding Board who realise the importance of Cobalt to the people of Fazakerley, Croxteth, Norris Green and Clubmoor.
I have always done my best for Cobalt and our tenants and wish you all the best for the future.
Best of luck and please take care,
Alan Rogers
Chief Executive
