We’ve partnered with the Merseyside Dog Safety Partnership (MDSP) to create a Pet Policy on responsible dog ownership, to keep both people and pets safe in our communities.

The Pet Policy aims to reduce the number of people injured by dogs across Merseyside and tackle stereotypes of aggressive behaviour in dogs and their owners.

Our Community Engagement Lead, Kate Toutountzi, a representative of MDSP, attended The Crufts Dog Show earlier this month along with The Dogs Trust, NHS, Liverpool University and Sefton Council and other members, to raise awareness about responsible dog ownership and what we can do to support our customers who own pets.

Along with keeping pets and people safe in our communities, the policy provides clear guidance about the expectations of our customers and what actions we may take if there’s a breach of tenancy.

The Pet Policy is in response to changes in legislation to the Dangerous Dogs Act and the Renters Reform Bill. It is currently being presented to our Housing and Neighbourhood Committee (HNC) and our Board and is expected to launch at the end of April, to coincide with National Pet Month.
