Supporting the next generation is at the heart of building strong, thriving neighbourhoods, and helping children explore the world of work early gives them the confidence to dream big. That’s why we were delighted to join the Discover Housing campaign at Monksdown Primary School in Norris Green, delivered in partnership with Positive Footprints.
The event marked the official launch of the national Discover Housing programme, connecting 100 housing associations with 100 primary schools across the country. Together, the campaign introduces thousands of young people to the diverse and rewarding careers available within the housing sector.
More than 120 pupils from Years 5 and 6, along with parents and local residents, came together to explore the different roles that help shape strong communities. Through fun activity sessions, pupils discovered the skills, qualifications and day-to-day responsibilities of working in housing.
Our CEO Claire Griffiths, Communities & Partnerships Manager Dave Garster, and ASB Community Engagement Lead, Kate Toutountzi were there on the day and spent the morning talking to pupils about their roles and the pathways that led them there.
Kate shared how inspired she felt:
“It was wonderful to see the children so engaged and inquisitive about a career in housing. Our partnership with Monksdown and other local schools is incredibly important – without their involvement, events like this simply wouldn’t happen.”
Through our ongoing partnership with Positive Footprints, we’ve continued to invest in raising aspirations across our neighborhoods. In 2024/25 alone, 160 children and young people across four schools took part in 48 hours of careers-led learning, generating £32,505.60 in social value.
Monksdown Primary has been a long-standing partner, and their staff were full of praise for the impact the event had on their pupils.
Ann‑Marie Ferrigan from Monksdown said:
“It was an amazing morning, and the children are still talking about the people they met and the confidence it’s given them. We’re incredibly lucky to work with such wonderful groups who provide life‑changing opportunities for our children.”
The Discover Housing campaign has only just begun, and we’re proud that Monksdown Primary played such an important role in its launch. By giving children meaningful experiences, positive role models and the opportunity to ask questions, we’re helping lay the foundations for brighter, more confident futures.
We’re excited to be inspiring young people in our communities to discover the world of work and the fantastic opportunities that a career in housing can offer.
