Neighbourhoods across Liverpool have experienced a noticeable loss of nature over the past few decades, with 5% of habitats – including 10% of our most biodiverse grasslands – disappearing since the 1980s. Many local species are also declining, with 36 priority species not recorded since 1970 and another 34 not seen since 1989, suggesting they may now be locally extinct.

That’s why Cobalt is committed to making a positive change. We want our neighbourhoods to be greener, cleaner and richer in nature, ensuring that residents benefit from healthier, more vibrant outdoor spaces while helping wildlife recover.

What we are committing to

  • All new development schemes have at least 10% biodiversity net-gain and utilise BNG assessments.
  • LEMPS (Landscape and Ecological Management Plans) are completed for all new proposed developments, we will also create copies for customers too.
  • Continue to maintain and invest in our communal gardens.
  • Support innovative, grassroots nature-based initiatives, such as Karonga Gardens, to provide volunteering and upskilling opportunities for residents.
