What is retrofit?
Retrofit means improving the energy performance of existing homes through measures such as insulation, ventilation upgrades, efficient heating, renewable technologies, and smart controls. These improvements help reduce heat loss, lower energy bills, improve comfort, and reduce carbon emissions.
Our goal
Cobalt Housing is committed to ensuring all homes reach at least EPC band C by 2030. This requires long-term investment in large-scale energy-efficiency upgrades across our housing stock.
How are we doing this?
Cobalt is delivering its retrofit investment alongside Ecogee, using grants through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) and Warm Homes fund (WH:SHF), which provides government support for improving social homes.
A look at what we have delivered so far:
Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (Wave 2)
Delivered improvements such as loft insulation, external & cavity wall insulation, ventilation upgrades, and solar panel installs to over 450 homes since 2023. Our initial scope was extended, demonstrating Cobalt’s commitment to cutting its carbon footprint and investment to create warmer, safer homes.
What we are doing next:
Warmer Home: Social Housing Fund (Wave 3)
Cobalt has secured funding to deliver improvements to approximately 440 homes, supported by £6m of investment. This wave will include a range of measures designed to improve warmth and energy efficiency. Planned works include insulation upgrades, ventilation improvements, solar panels and new low carbon heating alternatives.
