We were proud to lace up our trainers and take part in the #kNOwKnifeCrime community relay, running alongside children, schools and community partners to raise awareness about the devastating impact of knife crime.

Over 150 pupils from local schools in our neighbourhoods took part in the relay, which started at Monksdown Primary School. The run passed eleven schools before travelling by minibus to West Derby Cemetery to complete the final leg to Holy Name Primary School.

We believe early engagement with young people is key to preventing harm and building stronger, safer communities. That’s why, as well as taking part in the relay, we also:

  • Donated £500 to fund emergency bleed kits
  • Supported lifesaving first aid training for 2,500 young people

So far, the #kNOwKnifeCrime relay run has raised £2,152 to raise awareness among young people about the dangers and consequences of knife crime. You can make a donation here.

Kate Toutountzi, Cobalt’s ASB Engagement Community Lead said: “Being part of the #kNOwKnifeCrime relay was about more than raising awareness — it was about showing young people that we’re invested in their future. When we work together, we can help prevent harm before it happens.”

The #kNOwKnifeCrime campaign was founded by Laura Hughes, whose brother Colin McGinty tragically lost his life to knife crime in 2001. Laura has been nominated for a Pride of Britain Award, and you can read more about her powerful story here.

A huge thank you to everyone who got involved, from the pupils and teachers to the community partners and volunteers. Together, we’re making a difference.
