A once underused area in Fazakerley has been transformed into a thriving wildlife habitat and community space, as local residents, volunteers and partners came together to celebrate the official opening of a new wildlife pond at Karonga Gardens.
Lord Mayor Cllr William Shortall officially opened the pond, marking the completion of a project designed to bring nature, education and community wellbeing together in one accessible outdoor space.
Accessibility was a key priority throughout the project, ensuring people of all ages and abilities can enjoy the area. The pond will not only provide a peaceful green space for residents and visitors but also offer valuable outdoor learning opportunities for local schoolchildren to explore wildlife, biodiversity and the natural environment.
The opening event highlighted the dedication and collaboration behind the project, with volunteers, residents and partners playing a vital role in bringing the vision to life.
Our CEO Claire Griffiths, along with our colleagues Karl, Gail and Paula were delighted to attend and see first-hand the positive impact that the new space will have on the local community.
Congratulations to Karonga Gardens Co-ordinator Dawn McShane and her team of volunteers for their hard work and commitment in making the project a reality.
The new wildlife pond stands as a lasting example of what can be achieved when communities work together, creating a greener, more connected neighbourhood that will benefit both people and wildlife for years to come.
